What is a McGrath Breast Care Nurse?

McGrath Breast Care Nurses are registered nurses specially trained to manage the care of people with breast cancer throughout the course of their treatment. They are a principal liaison between the individual and the specialists who coordinate their treatment – whether it be early or metastatic breast cancer. McGrath Breast Care Nurses also play an important advocacy role as well as helping to clarify technical or complicated information that may not be easily understood. They offer vital emotional support for people with breast cancer and their families, during what can be a very difficult time.

How can it help me?

From the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment, our McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Sue Collins, helps by listening, organising, empowering and supporting our patients and their families. This is a complimentary service for our breast cancer patients. Sue builds an important relationship with each patient, and becomes a trusted, consistent and knowledgeable point of contact through their beast cancer journey.

What can I expect?

Your initial appointment with Sue is usually arranged through one of our breast surgeons or oncologists, where she can discuss your treatment plan, with you and answer any questions. Sue also plays an important role in post-surgery wound care and recovery. Your appointments with Sue can continue throughout your treatment and beyond, for as long as you need them.
